On April 13th members are welcome to join a brief rally to Marengo, IL to tour a WW2 B-17 bomber that has been under restoration since the mid-1980s. Michael Kellner purchased the aircraft in Maine and trucked the various pieces back to a huge metal building just South of downtown Marengo. Volunteers have been diligently working to get the aircraft ("Desert Rat") back to flying condition.
Members should plan to arrive at Ambrosia in Barrington sometime before 8:30 AM for a quick breakfast prior to a 9 AM departure for Marengo. The driving portion will take slightly more that 1 hour and will take place rain or shine.
Upon arrival, Mr Kellner will lead us on a tour of the restoration project.
Lunch will be available at the Pointer's Saloon in downtown Marengo just a few miles North of Kellner Restoration. In order to speed up the luncheon process, participants are asked to select one of the the following menu items. Other menu items are available but may require. a longer wait time. The following selections include the entree and a soft drink but other beverages will be available at your expense.
The cost of the luncheon as well as a donation to the restoration project is $25 per person.
Chicken Avocado - grilled chicken w Cajun seasoning, lettuce & pepper jack cheese
Turkey Club - triple-decker bacon, turkey, lettuce and tomato
Pulled Pork - slow-roasted pulled pork in BBQ sauce served on a bun
Breaded Pork Tenderloin Sandwich - topped with mozzarella cheese, lettuce and tomato
Saloon Burger - 10 oz. burger topped with your choice of cheese
Please indicate your menu choices when registering for this event. Registered participants will receive a paid meal voucher when they check in on the morning of the event. Registration for the luncheon portion will close on April 10th, 2019.
